The story of “Black Hawk Down” has become ingrained in popular culture thanks in part to the book by Mark Bowden, and certainly thanks to the movie by Ridley Scott. If you haven’t heard the story you can get the short version on Wikipedia. The turning point is when one of the supporting helicopters is shot down and suddenly the US forces loose the initiative and the ability to pick their fights.
